Several competitors in the smartphone industry have been playing a vital role in bringing a secure way to authenticate. Our traditional way to unlock a smartphone is by using fingerprintĀ sensors. Some big companies like Apple went further more secure by launching Face ID. Samsung is the only company right now who sell smartphones with the traditional fingerprint sensor. Even small players like Vivo and Oppo have already brought in-display fingerprint sensor. Samsung has got a new news for us, that they might introduce ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor on their next upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10. Ultrasonic In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

Optical vs Ultrasonic In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

The optical in-display fingerprint sensor which is currently available on Oppo and Vivo will illuminate a bright light over the finger on the screen and reads the pores and ridges of the human finger. This way of authenticating needs a bright light to be spread over the screen. They work smart but they are annoying during the night and are slow. This should have made a big player like Samsung avoid implementing such a technology to their smartphones. Ultrasonic In-display fingerprint sensor does not emit any light to authenticate but emits ultrasonic pulses over the screen. This does not require any light, thus the technology isn't annoying as the optical sensor. Also, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is faster than an optical fingerprint sensor. Samsung is about to bring ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor to Samsung's next flagship smartphone, that is, on Samsung Galaxy S10. So does the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The Galaxy Note 9 is already featured as the best smartphone of the year and the Note 10 is going to amaze us more. Another big news is that Samsung might remove the Iris scanner after introducing the Ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. The sensor is going to cover almost 30% of the screen. This enables the user to more conveniently rest their finger on the display.
